The Earth Was Once a Garden Place...
Our last stop on our trip was at Adam Ondi Ahman. The church owns the land here and there are several little houses that the couple missionaries assigned to the area for upkeep and maintenance live in.
There's a little walking path that leads to the overlook at the south end of the valley.
Grant was eating his banana as we took pictures from the overlook area. You can see the valley in the background. It's all been planted to soybeans. We're not sure who harvests them, but we're guessing the crops are used by the church in some way.
Here we are at the overlook. It was pretty windy that day. Like Jared's hair?
There's a road that you can drive on that winds through the two hills and ends up at another walking path that you can go down to see the valley from Tower Hill (so called because the ruins of a Nephite altar were found in that area). This is everybody walking back down the path.
This was just too cute of a photo op. Grant was busy scouting sticks and rocks that he could carry around. He even gave me one as a gift. We kept a couple of the rocks he collected and took them home with us as a memento of our trip.
Looks like Grant inherited his mom's tendency to turn really red when exercising. It wasn't really terribly hot, but just walking around so much in the humidity made Grant's face really red. Here he is with Grandpa Sommers.
Back in the car again, but with a licorice!! Yum! Grant discovered that a road trip just isn't a road trip (with Grandma and Grandpa Sommers) unless there's licorice. After seeing all these inspiring places, we ended our trip with a visit to a great Kansas City barbecue place. Kansas City certainly does have good barbecue!
