Construction 2009 - The Project Begins
And so it begins... I've been taking pictures of the construction almost every day as they started putting up the garage. Once they got the concrete pad taken out, this is what it looked like.
We ran into an entire week of bad rainy weather so that put us behind schedule right away. But they finally got it all marked and formed, ready for the concrete.
The boys had been waiting and waiting for the cement truck to come. We'd been telling them for a month that it was going to come to our house. So it finally did and they watched the guys pour the concrete, just as we got our second 100+ degree heat wave of the summer. Lucky workers!
I put the boys handprints in the new cement to commemorate the building project. I had to write Jacob's name sideways next to his print because I didn't leave enough room for where the studs were going to go.
This is how it looked only last week - the framing didn't take very long at all.
The 'tractor' has been parked at our house for over a month now. I think the boys think that it's going to be ours after the construction is over.
Roofing...in almost every picture you may notice little boys' trucks around in the dirt. The only time of day they can play in our yard is in the evening after the crew leaves. Otherwise, they're just out there showing them all their toys and asking questions and walking underneath boards that could fall on their heads!
A roof - hooray! Here's a couple of pictures of the new garage bay.
It rained again this week while they were doing the roofing, and we were able to keep Jacob out of the mud. But Grant had to walk all over in it.
Sorry Mom - I got my shoes all muddy. Will you take my picture?
Jacob was busy helping Daddy pull crabgrass out of the yard, but he posed for a picture too!
Here's a few pictures of what it looked like today. They put the shingles and siding on last Friday. Today the electrician came and wired everything for lights and outlets.
The new bay sticks out about 4 feet past the old garage, but the front is flush with the other side.
We had them put a window in the new wall. It's nice to have some light in there when you step out into the garage now without having to turn on a light.
Inside shot of the new bay with the paneling removed from between the bays.
There's the old garage. They'll be taking down the old studs in a couple days and then it will all be open (except about a two foot pillar where the beam comes across- where the blue outlet box is just left of center of this picture). Now you're all caught up on our project. They laid out the markers for our deck out back today and that's the next project for our construction crew.
