Grant's First Day of Kindergarten

Grant started Kindergarten today. He's been excited for months. He isn't scared or nervous or anything. School shopping was fun for him. He got a Star Wars backpack and a Buzz Lightyear lunchbox. I took these pictures this morning before I took him to school. I remember having a picture in front of our house for every year of school on the first day with all of us lined up in our new clothes with our new gear.
Jacob wanted to be in the pictures too, so I let him. He missed Grant today and kept asking if it was time to go pick him up from school yet. I bought Jacob his own Buzz and Woody lunchbox and we went to the park to eat our lunch today. I pulled him and Lottie in the little red wagon. They thought it was really fun to go on a picnic. We have all day kindergarten here so Grant starts school at 9am and goes until 4:10pm. Long day for him and for me! He'll ride the bus later this week. In fact, he was a little annoyed with me today that he didn't get to ride the #1 bus home. He already knows his bus number, so funny. Anyway, these were some of Grant's impressions of school today: the most exciting thing that happened was that they were going to have a snack, but a raccoon came in and stole it and left them notes where to go look for their snack. They looked in the principal's office and got to meet the principal, they looked in the gym, the music room, the art room and finally, the last note said 'ha ha, I tricked you' and he had snuck back into their classroom while everyone was gone and put the snack back. It was apple jacks! Grant also got to make letters with play dough and they have to raise their hand with the sign language 'r' if they have to go to the restroom. His teacher for today was Mrs. Kvassy. The kindergarten students are each assigned to attend only one of the first three days of this week. They all come on Thursday and Friday and spend time with each of the teachers and then are assigned to a permanent teacher at the end of the week. So Grant gets to stay home Tuesday and Wednesday and then I promised him that he can ride the bus on Thursday to and from school. Another big step for me will be putting him on the bus.
