Bike Ride!!
On Saturday, we all went for a bike ride. The county sponsored a bike ride fundraiser called the "Cabin Fever" challenge this past Saturday and proceeds go towards a new paved bike path that will connect Wamego to Manhattan's bike path that goes around the city. Jared was asked to sit on the planning committee for the development of the bike path, so he's really excited to get to participate in the project. But anyway, the ride had three different routes, 18-mile, 37-mile, and 52-mile. Being that we were totally out of shape and it was Grant's first long ride, we decided to do the 37 mile route at first. But the night before, I came down with a horrible cough/cold and didn't even think I'd be able to ride at all. On Saturday morning, I felt a lot better, but not up to the 37 miles. So we all took the 18 mile route and did pretty well.
We left from our house and rode our bikes across town to the middle school where the ride started from. They had a great breakfast for us and then we left around 10am. The weather was great - about 50-someodd degrees. It was quite warm actually and got up to around 70 while we were out. Jared and I got sunburned arms and legs, but Grant was in the shade all the time. He wasn't terribly excited about being in the trailer all strapped in place, nor was he too excited to wear his helmet for so long, but he got over it and even slept several times while we were moving along. Everyone made a big fuss over him along the way. The headwind on the way back was pretty rough, but we made it and were about the 4th and 5th people to finish the ride. Not bad for being so out of shape. We definitely will be trying to get out more and get Grant more used to being on the road in the trailer so we can take longer rides in the future.
