Petting Zoo Visit
Saturday, April 21st was the Annual Wamego City Tulip Festival. Unfortunately, there weren't many tulips this year since they were all killed in the FREAK frosty weather we had for over a week in early April. But other than the tulips not being what they are usually, it was a fun time. The Hospital usually has a booth that we help man for a couple of hours on Saturday, but they didn't have one this year, so we were able to go to the festival in the afternoon after Grant's nap. They have a petting zoo every year and we were excited to take Grant.
The first animal Grant saw was this little lamb, born sometime this spring. He was very non-threatening, a good animal to start with. Grant liked the lamb because it didn't really move very much.
Then the lamb's big brother came over to check things out. Grant wasn't sure about this one, since he was almost as tall as Grant and he actually MOVED. He wouldn't touch this one, but he kept saying 'Sheep ---Baaaaa'.
We moved on to the calf in the next pen. Just as Jared thought Grant might reach out and touch the calf's back, it started bawling REALLY loud. After that, Grant wasn't having anything to do with the calf, although he did giggle every time the cow would 'talk'. The llamas in the next pen were also a little too frightening for Grant and he wouldn't touch them either.
T
he bunny though, that was an animal Grant LOVED. He was a cute little thing, he just hopped around a little bit on the bale of hay and Grant got to pet him for about 10 minutes. He loved the rabbit and how soft he was. After seeing all the other animals Grant wanted to come back to the rabbit again, so we let him pet it again for a while. He was very sad when we had to leave the petting zoo.
There was a litter of puppies there that all the older kids were holding, so Grant didn't get to see one up close, but he did get to pet the one that was sleeping in the shade. The puppy never even moved. After the petting zoo, we took Grant through some of the craft fair booths and watched the electric train displays and the fire juggler. Then we bought some 'carnival' food and went home.
Jared had gone riding on his dirt bike on Saturday morning in the mud, so it was quite dirty and Grant was watching Jared wash the bike....
but watching wasn't good enough, he had to be right in there 'helping' dad. If he ever figures out the trigger nozzle on the hose, we're in for some trouble.
I'm sure dad appreciated what a great helper Grant is becoming!!
