The 4th of July in Wamego is always a big event. They have a great carnival that they put on starting the weekend before the 4th. We decided to take Grant down on the 3rd instead of trying to fight the crowds on the actual holiday. Turns out we made a great choice since there was almost no one there and we didn't have to wait in line more than about 5 minutes (if at all) for any of the rides. Unfortunately, Grant was too short for a couple of the ones he liked, but he was content to watch the other kids ride those rides. The fish ride was the first one he went on. Jared likes this picture because both Grant and the fish have droopy eyes. We got some video of him as the ride started and you can hear him giggling as soon as it starts. Of course, we had to do the merry-go-round. Jared rode with Grant the first time, then I rode with him when we let him go a second time. The only ride they'd let pregnant people on actually is this one. But you have to watch it first to make sure you think you'll be okay on it. Please!!! This was a rather cool ride. It's like the scrambler at Lagoon, but you're in an enclosed Bear car. You use the wheel in the center to spin the bear in a circle as you go. Jared had a hard time turning it since Grant wasn't much help. Yeah, too dangerous for a pregnant lady, but 2-year-olds can ride it??? Whatever. Here's a good picture of Jared and Grant as they wait for the ride to start. Grant thought it was really funny to turn in circles. Here's Grant's second ride on the fish ride. There were other kids on it besides him this time and the sun had finally gone down so the video turned out a little better. Grant was busy watching the kid in the pink fish behind him the whole time. And what's a carnival without carnival food?? We bought a caramel apple for everyone to share and Grant thought it was a great treat. I don't think he got much of the actual apple, he was more interested in the caramel part. But Grant had a great time at the carnival and afterwards we went home and lit off our own fireworks at our house. Grant was VERY interested in all the flames and colors. He picked out the smoke bombs for Jared to light. "Daddy do gween one"!! So he was up quite late with us doing the fireworks, but he thought they were really cool. We went back to the carnival with some friends from the ward on the 4th of July and Jared took Grant down the big slide once. The little boy and girl at the end are the kids in our ward that Grant likes to play with the most.

Jared, Jen, Grant, Jacob & Lottie live in a little (and we DO mean little) town in Kansas. Having never planned to or even thought about living in Kansas prior to moving here, we didn't know how we'd adjust. Jared and Jen lived in Utah before moving to Kansas in 2004, so we really miss those mountains. Grant was born in 2005, Jacob joined our family in 2007, and our most recent addition is Lottie, born in 2009. We love to spend time together. Since moving to Kansas, Jared and Jen renovated the house they live in (almost entirely, both inside and out). We love to garden during the summer and spend time outside in general, whether it's taking walks or going to the playground. Biking is our preferred method of recreating, but we don't get as many opportunities to do that as we used to. Welcome to our web journal. We hope our friends and family enjoy the news, pictures and video clips of our life, since we live too far away to visit you very often.
