At the end of July, Grandma and Grandpa Sommers came to visit. Grant had lots of fun with 'gramma' and 'crappa' including getting taken out for french fries several times!! While they were here, we went hiking while Daddy went dirt biking (I'll post some of those pictures in a different entry) and we went to Sunset Zoo in Manhattan. Grant's been to the zoo before but he was only a few months old, so he didn't really get to enjoy it much. It was VERY hot and VERY humid that day (you can probably tell from our red faces). Grant loved the monkeys best. He kept asking to see more monkeys, but the zoo only had so many. One of the chimpanzees came right up to the glass where Grant was and sat down and looked at him. Grant saw this leopard and called it a tiger. The real tiger was about as interesting as a bump on a log and Grant never really got to actually see him because he was sitting down in the shade far away from the spectators. But thanks to this leopard Grant thinks he did see the tiger. This cute little red panda came right up to the glass where Grant was and then went back out to climb up the tree. He looked like a little stuffed animal. The flamingos are one of my favorites. They looked like they were keeping cool in the water that day. Wish I could have joined them and gone wading. Grant went for a walk with the tortoises that were walking around the perimeter of the fence. He thought they were really neat and we saw some turtles in the pond that were swimming and they came right up to us and just looked. We realized later that we were standing next to the turtle chow machine and they were probably annoyed that we didn't give them any food. The zoo has a little goat petting zoo. It took Grant a little while to warm up to the idea of actually touching the goats, but since Daddy did it, he wanted to also. Then after he touched one, he had to go around and touch ALL of them. This one was hanging out by the gate, hoping to escape we think. The goats were really cute and after the zoo was over, we went to dinner (all hot and sweaty) at Famous Dave's Barbecue.

Jared, Jen, Grant, Jacob & Lottie live in a little (and we DO mean little) town in Kansas. Having never planned to or even thought about living in Kansas prior to moving here, we didn't know how we'd adjust. Jared and Jen lived in Utah before moving to Kansas in 2004, so we really miss those mountains. Grant was born in 2005, Jacob joined our family in 2007, and our most recent addition is Lottie, born in 2009. We love to spend time together. Since moving to Kansas, Jared and Jen renovated the house they live in (almost entirely, both inside and out). We love to garden during the summer and spend time outside in general, whether it's taking walks or going to the playground. Biking is our preferred method of recreating, but we don't get as many opportunities to do that as we used to. Welcome to our web journal. We hope our friends and family enjoy the news, pictures and video clips of our life, since we live too far away to visit you very often.
