Biking Season
Grant had a great time on his big boy bike this summer. He got the hang of riding really quickly and the elementary school parking lot behind our house became his practice riding area. it's relatively flat and easy to ride on.
Of course, we had to take a picture of his first bike accident 'owie'. He got it the very first night he rode his bike. He did get right back up on the bike and rode again. Good sport! He's improved imensely over the last couple months. Jared took the training wheels off once to let him pedal around with Jared holding onto the bike and he does pretty well. It took him a while to ride 'up' the hills or inclines. He couldn't understand why we wanted him to get a running start at the incline into the driveway and he'd stop pedaling just as he reached it. He FINALLY rode up it by himself the other night for the first time! HOORAY!! AND, last week when we were over at the school lot with Grant, he surprised us by coming around behind us and riding right off the curb on purpose and kept going! We were so impressed! I didn't do that sort of thing on a bike until I was 22! He keeps telling us he wants to ride down the stairs at the school because he saw Jared do it. I told him he had to be a little bigger to do that sort of riding. Here's another trick Grant learned on his bike. He found a crack in our driveway that let's him spin his wheels without moving and he can just sit and spin the pedals forever.

So here's what Grant looked like most of the summer when he was on the bike.
And this is what he looked like the rest of the time, when he wasn't riding, just running around the yard. It seemed like his first activity was always bike riding when we went outside so we put the helmet on (safety first you know!). Then he'd get distracted and run around the yard doing other things and never took the helmet off and then he'd go back to riding his bike. So if he was outside, he was usually wearing his helmet no matter what he was doing.
Lest you think Grant was the only one to enjoy biking this summer, Jacob really likes the dirt bike! Grant wouldn't come near it, let alone touch the dirt bike if it was running, but Jacob sat on it when it was going and even reached for the throttle to rev it up a little. No fear in that one!
Here's the shot I got of Jacob revving the throttle. Little daredevil! Jared was stoked, of course.
