Halloween 2008

We had to have Halloween without Daddy this year, because he had to fly home for Grandpa Sam's funeral. So the boys and I went to our branch Halloween party and out trick-or-treating together. But first, the pumpkin carving! We carved pumpkins the night before Jared left to go to Idaho. The boys wanted to help of course and Grant was really excited to carve pumpkins. But he didn't want to get his hands messy. We didn't have that problem with Jacob.
Jacob dove right in with getting the guts out of the pumpkins.
Once the pumpkins were cleaned out, Grant didn't have any problem sticking his hands down inside to help Daddy get the pieces out that he was carving. Look at his tongue sticking out (he's concentrating so hard!)
Jacob loved the excitement of it all. He enjoyed taking the lid off and putting it back on. He could have done that all night. Here's the finished products. We let Grant choose the designs for both, since Jacob doesn't really care much yet.

But the boys were excited to light the pumpkins and see their faces in the dark.

Here they are. Spooky, huh?On Wednesday night, we went to the branch's fall festival. They had games and treats for the kids and a pumpkin carving contest (Grant's got 3rd place). There was also a spook house that the youth were in charge of. That's where Grant spent most of the night. He thought it was the coolest thing and wasn't scared a bit. He kept going in over and over and over. I think he liked the flashlights and strobe lights. Anyway, we had a good time and Grant even got a Woody action figure from the fish pond. He was so happy! These are the pictures I took of the boys when we were getting ready to go down to the trick or treat downtown. The hospital had a booth and were handing out candy, but we didn't go do that for the first time since moving here. It was such a warm night (in the 70s) that the boys and I walked down to the trick or treating and made the rounds, then we walked home. We stopped to see 'Grandpa Ken' at his daughter's house. I took the boys' pictures with him because they looked so cute sitting together. When we got home, Grant insisted on lighting the pumpkins. So the boys sat and watched them for a while until it got dark. Jacob tried to give the pumpkins a drink of water and kept trying to touch the fire, so I decided it was time to go inside for treats. We had our usual Halloween sugar cookie and 1 treat from the treat bag. Then the boys played for a while. Jacob even let me put his hat on his head. He hadn't worn it all night, but I did get a picture or two.Jacob was too cute in his cowboy outfit. He posed for a lot of pictures. It's fun to compare the pictures I took of Grant when he wore the same cowboy outfit 2 years ago. Here's one of Grant from 2006:
Here's a little video of the two boys. This was actually the first time Jacob ever walked down the hallway on his own (mostly):
