The Two Musketeers

The boys are learning better and better how to play together. Of course, there are still controversies. Jacob is able to run away when he has something Grant wants and usually goes directly under the table with it, or else in the little space between the crib and the wall. Grant's way of retaliating is to put things he doesn't want Jacob to play with (even though he's not playing with them himself) up high on shelves or in the coat closet. We find toys in the strangest places. I found a little blue monkey in my sifter on the lazy susan in the kitchen one day. The boys leave trails of toys and cars all over the house - almost so good you could track their movements throughout the day by the placement of the toys.Grant learned a new trick this month - he takes all the blankets off the changing table shelves and piles them on the floor in order to make a swimming pool! So fun - for him and Jacob. He quickly learned that he has to choose whether the fun is worth the picking up of all the blankets afterwards by himself. Hmmm. Jacob learned to climb up on the shelves and lie down like Grant does. One night, Grant was on the top shelf and Jacob on the bottom shelf. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a picture, but that was pretty funny. The month of January was SO LONG!! Partly due to the fact that Jacob was teething like ALL month! It took forever for his two upper incisors to come through. Bleh! He's not a good teether. So grumpy. Grant never let on that he was ever teething. In fact, the only reason we ever found out that he was teething was because he would get an ear infection every time! At least Jacob hasn't done that. He's just ornery! The other night, Grant had been wearing his Buzz Lightyear costume around during the day and wanted to put it back on. I let out the last tuck we took in his costume when we bought it 2 years ago yesterday, so the legs come down to his ankles again. Anyway, Grant insisted that Jacob wanted to be a pirate, so we put the pirate costume on Jacob. Grant said Jacob was Captain Hook and he was Buzz Lightyear. Here are the two boys on the rocking horse together. Jacob can't get up by himself, so Grant rides behind him.It usually works out pretty well, until Grant slides off and Jacob (since his feet don't reach the stirrups) falls off too.Jacob looked so cute as 'Captain Hook' that I couldn't help taking several pictures of him. Maybe he'll be a pirate for Halloween this year. The costume might actually fit him right by then.
Here's Grant helping Jacob accessorize his costume with a hat. The pirate hat we have is around somewhere, but I haven't ever seen Jacob wear it. Usually it's Grant that wears it.

On Sunday night, the boys needed to expend some energy so we had tractor races in the basement. Jared took the first run with Jacob. The boys love to race tractors. Jacob's legs are almost long enough for him to propel himself, but not quite. He can move forward or backward a little when he's on the tile part of the floor, but the carpet's another story still. Grant kept crashing over and one time he wanted Jared to wait for him to get his car back up, so he said they needed to have a pit stop.
